Dr Rajendra Rao Ramalu

Dr Rajendra Rao Ramalu is a board-certified neurosurgeon with years of experience treating a variety of neurological, spinal and pain disorders. He obtained his medical degree from the International Medical University, Malaysia and received his post-graduate training in Master of Neurosurgery from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

He served the busiest neurosurgical centre in the country, Hospital Kuala Lumpur since 2012 and received HKL’s Excellence Service Award in 2014 and 2015 for his commitment and contribution towards the neurosurgical department. Prior to joining Aurelius Healthcare, he served Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan.

In 2022, he gained the AO spine fellowship at the prestigious, Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India as well as Fellowship in Interventional Pain at Daradia Pain Institute in Kolkata, India under the tutelage of Dr Gautam Das.

As an avid academician, he actively participated in various educational activities as well as organizing them. He has published the largest series of haemorrhagic stroke in the country in MJMS journal in 2021. His love for teaching was evident by the numerous talks and lectures given at both local and international conferences.

He is skilled at using ultrasound for spinal, cranial and pain intervention related procedures to minimize radiation exposure.

His calm approach and style of handling challenges have made him approachable and reliable among his esteemed colleagues.

He is capable of performing a range of neurosurgical procedures from basic to complex cases such as the following:

• Excision of brain tumours (benign and malignant)
• Intracranial bleed & Clipping of aneurysm
• Image-guided surgery (IGS) / stereotactic brain surgery
• Minimally invasive cranial and spinal procedures
• Neuroendoscopy
• Excision of spinal cord tumour
• Basic spinal instrumentations
• Stroke
• Trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain)
• Hemifacial spasm (facial twitch)
• Pain interventional therapy
• Management of traumatic head injuries.

His special interest includes
• Pain intervention
• Spine intervention
• Stroke and stroke rehabilitation

He treats all spinal disorders such as:
1. Cervical spondylosis (neck pain)
2. Lumbar spondylosis (low back pain)
3. Spinal trauma
4. Spinal tumours
5. Spinal infections

Treatment for spinal disorders offered by Dr Rajendra Rao ranges from conservative treatment, pain intervention treatment (spinal steroids
injections, radiofrequency treatment, intradiscal treatment, etc) and surgical procedures for fusion and/or instrumentation (open surgery,
minimally invasive surgery, and endoscopic surgery.
